I like songs about drifters, books about the same
New song of the whenever on the [audio] page tonight. (It's "World at Large" by Modest Mouse.) This track came on the moment I logged on to [E2] today, and that hit me pretty hard.

It's sorta hard to explain. It's like... it made me wonder about what I was doing in 2004 when I first heard this song (reading E2, probably, and listening to [WDET]). Indie music was something I was only vaguely aware of back then. I was proud that I could even think to myself "hey, a Modest Mouse song... aren't they from Seattle or somewhere?"

And here I am sitting at my keyboard circa 2008, and I have this weird thought, like "maaan... if I could write myself just one email and send it 4 years in the past, it'd say 'Yo, Mike, you've gotta listen to that. That song right there. Over and over. Be inspired by that song, and all those other albums and books you've been into lately. Pack up your stuff. Leave Michigan. Head out west. It'll be great.'"

And then I remembered, oh hey wait... I don't need a time machine for that. That *is* basically what I did. I did pack it up, I did move out here, and it *is* great... haha, go me!

GO YOU! :)

Sometimes I feel like I'll never get out of this state.
